SWAG Theater Company opens its 2016-2017 theatre season with the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof! Fiddler is based on Sholem Aleichem stories with Book by Joseph Stein,Music by Jerry Bock and Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Directed by SWAG Artistic Director Maui Jones with Musical Direction by David White, this gem from Broadway's Golden Age of musicals, moves to Beye Elementary School to continue SWAG's inaugural season. It plays from November 4th through November 20th.

Fiddler is a celebration of life and its challenges. Trying to balance life - like a fiddler on a roof - Tevye attempts to hold onto his traditions despite sweeping social change that is upsetting his family values while threatening his town's very
existence. The musical is directed by Maui Jones (Legends of Broadway) and features Ben Goodman as Tevye the dairyman who must find suitable husbands for his daughters and has ongoing
respectful debates with God. Jones said that "We can all learn something from this timeless classic. It shows us the power of tradition and the potential of progress all through the lens of the beautiful Jewish faith."

SWAG's creative team includes choreography by Anita Gabor, musical direction by David White, costume design by Lou Gale, and stage manager Ray Vanek. In addition to Ben Goodman in the role of Tevye, the cast includes Tammy O'Reilly as Golde,
Madeline Mitchell as Tzeitel, Katie McClatchey as Hodel, Domingo as Motel, Frank Blackman as Perchik, Amanda Winkle as Chava, and many other wonderfully talented local performers.

Fiddler on the Roof first appeared on Broadway in 1964 and swept the Tonys with nine "Best" awards including Best Musical for a score that features "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," "If I were a
Rich Man," "Sunrise, Sunset," and "Do You Love Me." The film adaptation was released in 1971 and scored three Oscars including Best Score Adaptation for John Williams. It also won the Golden Globe for Best Picture.

Show times: November 4-6, 11-13, 18-20 Fri & Sat 7:30pm Sun 3:00pm.
