Le Boeuf Brothers Imaginist CD Release featuring Friction Quartet
Le Boeuf Brothers are excited to celebrate the release of their fourth album, Imaginist, due out on Oct. 14 via New Focus Recordings/Panoramic Recordings. The release is an interpretation of the works of twin brothers pianist Pascal Le Boeuf and saxophonist Remy Le Boeuf in collaboration with New York based JACK Quartet, featuring Grammy-nominated tenor saxophonist Ben Wendel, alternating bassists Ben Street and Martin Nevin, and alternating drummers Justin Brown and Peter Kronreif. Based on the 20th-century Russian poetry movement and structured to unfold like a book, Imaginist presents an amalgamation of fresh improvisatory approaches with an informed compositional aesthetic branching from literature, jazz, and the new music community, according to the Le Boeuf Brothers website. Joining the band for this special CD release at Kuumbwa Jazz are San Francisco based Friction String Quartet. Saxophonist Remy and pianist Pascal are products of the post-fusion jazz era, with a penchant for genre hopping and diverse influences culminating in fresh sonic blends. From Kuumbwas jazz education programs to the clubs of New York City, the brothers have consistently delivered what DownBeat magazine refers to as creative invention with chops. 2015 saw the group win an Independent Music Award for a remix of their composition Red Velvet which originally appeared on their 2011 album In Praise of Shadows.
