The Magnolia Chorale presents Peace in a Time of War
This inspirational program offers healing, inspiring and peaceful music that will carry you beyond the strife and turmoil of our world and help us all to focus on what really matters.
The concert will open with Silent Night, the carol that was sung by the troops in both German and English on the night of the Christmas Truce in 1914. Mendelssohns Verleih uns Frieden (Grant Us Peace) is also poignantly appropriate as it was written by a Jewish composer whose family gave up their familial heritage in the hopes of being accepted as truly German. Craig Carnahans Armistice 1918 (Everyone Sang) inspires awe, as the composer says about the poem: There is joy that the war has ended, but sadness at the tremendous loss. All of the heartbreak of the first half is transformed in the second half with Christmas favorites written during World War II: Ill Be Home for Christmas, Let it Snow! and Baby, Its Cold Outside are three featured selections. These performances will also feature the formal debut of the Magnolia Chorale Chamber Singers, a small, auditioned group who perform additional repertoire and represent the Chorale at outreach events.
