Chinese Young Artist Performing Tour - Classic Opera and Arts Song
The concert is held by Seattle Eastern West Performing Arts and Philharmonia Northwest, and directed by Pamela Casella. We invites four top Chinese opera singers from Chinese National Opera House and National Center for the Performing Arts. They will perform western and Chinese classic opera songs.
Seattle East West Performing Arts Group (SEWPA) is a Washington nonprofit organization with a mission to further and appreciate classic and traditional music of East and West, and to organize musical education and performances.
Philharmonia Northwest was established as Thalia Chamber Symphony by founding music director Frances Walton in 1976. It began as the chamber symphony arm of Thalia Symphony, and as such was administered by Thalia Symphony for its first nine years, becoming an independent unit of Thalia Allied Artists in 1985. The name change to Philharmonia Northwest was effected in 1987. Julia Tai was chosen as music director in 2011 after a year-long search. She continues to bring new energy to their performances and organization. Under her direction, the Outreach Program, partnering with local school music groups and community organizations, has added a new element to our community involvement. Philharmonia Northwest also partners with the Kirkland Choral Society to produce outstanding annual concerts at Benaroya Hall.
Art Director : Pamela Casella
Spinto Soprano Soprano, early in her career, after studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, was the first voice heard in the Seattle Opera's opening performance of Wagner's RING OF THE NEIBELUNGEN, singing the role of Woglinde. Ms. Casella was a first place winner in the regional Metropolitian Opera Competition.
Sen Xu
Since joining China Central Opera in 2014, operatic tenor Sen Xu is an active performer in Chinas most prestigious opera stages. Sen Xu recently appeared in Madame Butterfly at the China National Opera House in July 2016, as Pinkerton. Other notable performances by Sen Xu include such classics as Tosca, as Mario Cavaradossi at the Century Opera House in Beijing in 2015, and Aida, as Radamès at the Central Conservatory of China Opera Center in 2013. Sen Xu also played lead roles in a number of original Chinese productions including My Mothers Name is Tai Hang, in the Special Performance in Honor of the 70th Anniversary of WWII; Qu Yuan, an original symphonic oratorio, and King Yu and the Great Floods at the Beijing International Choral Music Festival.
Sen Xu has won several awards in his singing career, including First Prize in the 8th Taipei Chinese Singing Competition, and Second Prize in the 11th National Singing Competition by China Ministry of Culture. Sen Xu graduated from the China Central Conservatory with a Master of Arts in Music.
Yang Luo
Tenor Yang Luo recently earned a Master of Art in Music from the Nanjing Art and Music Conservatory and is already a rising star in Chinas opera theaters. Advised by Professor Kun Xie and personally tutored by tenor Yu Qiang Dai, Yang Luo also received tutorage from Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé and German operatic tenor Siegfried Jerusalem. The great Spanish tenor Giacomo Aragall recently praised Yang Luo as not only having a wonderful voice, but singing from his heart, and both tone and expressions are spot on, its a hair-raising experiences to hear him sing.
Yang Luo recently performed with Plácido Domingo in Macbeth, as Malcolm, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in September 2016. In 2014, Yang Luo was invited to sing with the Budapest MAV Symphony Orchestra in several gala concerts held in the Hungarian National Theatre and Liszt Concert Hall. Yang Luo also appeared in a number of opera performances in China and Korea, including Lucia di Lammermoor as Edgar; La Boheme as Rudolf; Rigoletto as Duke, and The Magic Flute as Prince Tamino.
Yang Luo won the First Prize in the China Division of the 54 Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane in May 2016; Other awards include Outstanding Performance Award in The Queen Sonja International Music Competition 2015; The First prize in the China Division of The 34th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in May 2015; The First Prize in the China Division of 2015 Teresa Belloc International Opera Competition in April 2015 and The Special Prize for Budapest International Éva Marton Singing Competition in September 2014.
Xiaojing Chi
Xiaojing Chi is an operatic soprano with China Central Opera who makes regular appearances in operas such as La Traviata, Turandot, Die Zauberflot, Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as original productions such as Road to Revive. Xiaojing Chi won Superior Award in the Bel Canto Competition in the 3rd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival in 2009, Second Place in the Shangdong Division of the 12th CCTV National Young Singers Competition, and Second Place in the Young Singers Competition by China Peoples Music Association in 2009. Xiaojing Chi graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Music from Tong Ji University and is currently studying under Prof. Shuzhen Guo, a well-known soprano and vocal educator, at the China Central Conservatory of Music.
Di Kong, coloratura soprano, graduated from Shenyang Conservatory of Music, majoring in vocal performance. Currently she is working for National Center for the Performing Arts as an opera singer.
Di once took part in many performances of classic operas which were newly made by National Center for the Performing Arts, including "Simon Boccanegra", "Aida", "Norma", "IL Trovatore", "Nabucco", "Carmen", "Othello", "Lohengrin", "La Traviata", "Lelisir damore", "Tosca", and "Turandot; European classic operas produced in cooperation with National Center for the Performing Arts, Royal Opera House, San Francisco Opera and Teatro Regio di Parma, including "Andrea Chenier" and "Rigoletto", and also opera concerts "Guillaume Tell", "Requiem aeternam", "Symphony No.3 in D minor" and "Symphony No.8.in E flat majoy". She played with several famous masters together on the same stage including Leo Nucci, Domingo, Chung Myung-whun and Lorin Maszel. She also took part in multiple Chinese original operas, and visited and performed all over the world with other staff from National Center for the Performing Arts.
Di once played as role of Paggio in opera "Rigoletto" which is produced by National Center for the Performing Arts and Teatro Regio di Parma, and got useful suggestion and advice from master Leo Nucci.
Di played as roles of Gilda and Olympia in classic operas that held by concert hall of National Center for the Performing Arts, and received lots of praise and good feedback.
Shuni Wang
Before moving to Seattle in 2014, soprano Shuni Wang was a featured performer with the nationally renowned Nanjing Military Region Song and Dance Ensemble for 8 years. Shuni Wang held her solo vocal concert in Nanjing in 2012. After making Seattle her home, Shuni remained active in musical arts, both as a performer, with recent appearance in Rigoletto with Seattle Lyric Opera Northwest in 2015, and as a vocal teacher and choral music director. Shuni Wang received a Bachelor degree in piano and a Master of Fine Arts in vocal performance from Nanjing Art and Music Conservatory. She continues her study in vocal arts under Seattles very own Pamela Casella.
Seattle Aiyue Lady Philharmonic Chorus
Seattle Aiyue Lady Philharmonic Chorus was founded in 2016. Members are from various industries, and all of them love singing and passionate about music. Some of them graduated from music and arts academy, even major in vocality. Nini Wang is the coach of the chorus. She received a Bachelor degree in piano and a master of fine arts in vocal performance from Nanjing Art and Music Conservatory. She coached professional song and dance ensemble for years.
