Mama's Comfort Circus Camp
Guess what? Circus Camp is not just for kids anymore! Here's a camp where moms get props for surviving summer and getting through the transitions of Fall. Congratulations mama, you made it! You deserve some frolicking.
Circus Culture and Mama's Comfort Camp dreamed up a (kid free!) circus day for you. Your hosts: Yael Saar, Founder of Mama's Comfort Camp, Becki Hawley, the Hooping High Priestess, and Amy Cohen, founder of Circus Culture, come together to help you run away to join the circus (and still go home at night).
We will engage in: Juggling, gentle partner acrobatics, hula-hooping, whimsical movement to inspire flexibility of the soul, mandala art to increase focus and unlock creativity, and Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) to luxuriate in much needed deep REST.
When: Thursday October 27. 9:15am to 1:40pm. Schedule: 9:00-9:30 arrival, check-in, hugs, tea, chocolate. 9:30-10:15 Release dance with Yael 10:30-11:15: Hooping with Becki 11:15: snack 11:30-12:30 Juggling and gentle partner acrobatics with Amy 12:30-1:30 Yoga Nidra (deep rest) and mandala with Yael 1:30-1:40, more chocolate, goodbye hugs.
Release Dance with Yael: Priming joints and muscles, promoting flexibility of body and soul, releasing exhaustion and stepping into playful Whimsyland. This is not about dancing pretty, its more like massaging your joints and muscles from the inside. No dance experience or talent required.
Hooping with Becki: Instead of running around in circles, we get to learn how to make the hoop stay up and rolling. (Did we mention that this is the most fun abdominals workout ever? Tightening the bulges while loosening the giggles, now thats a new idea).
Juggling with Amy: Sure, motherhood is the biggest juggling act of all, but for once we'll learn how to juggle objects. Juggling is proven to have a striking positive impact on the brain, the development of executive function, and the capacity to bring more strength and coordination to your non-dominant side of the body. We will use partnering techniques to find access into juggling. Our gentle partner acrobatics session will bring you on a journey of trust and play - creating shapes and structures with your body that you never thought possible!
Deep Rest with Yael: Mandala art and Yoga Nidra are two forms of self nourishment that stretch time: 20 minutes of Yoga Nidra is considered the equivalent of 3 hours of sleep, and 20 minutes of mandala art can increase calm and focus for hours. In this segment we will end the day of fun and games with an opportunity to luxuriate in rest: 20 minutes of guided Yoga Nidra meditation will be followed by the option to continue napping for the rest of the hour, while the non-nappers among us get to color and draw mandalas to your heart's content.
We will wrap up with more chocolate at 1:40, just in time for elementary school pickup.
Cost: $75 for Mama's Comfort Camp members, $85 for non members. (Go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ithaca.mamas.comfort.camp/ to join the group and request your member coupon).
Financial assistance is available to those in need (contact info@circusculture.org).
Purchase is required to reserve your spot.
Logistics: Class size: no less than 6, no more than 12 women. This event is obviously aimed at mothers, but any woman interested is welcome. Questions about this event should be asked at the FB event page.
