Every year, 200 educators gather for an invigorating study of water systems including water supply, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management.  

GOAL: To Inspire problem-based learning in the classroom explicitly aligned with real-world, water resource management goals from the local to global community.

WHEN: Saturday, November 5, 2016, 9:00-4:00  Sign-in begins at 8:30

WHO:  All disciplines! Middle school, high school and college

REGISTRATION:  Free! But please fill out the required informational questions at check out

LUNCH PROVIDED:  Delicious, robust lunch catered by Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop

EVENT STRUCTURE

EXPERT TALKS: Exciting 8-minute talks by experts from a range of topics including water systems science, engineering, policy, economics, geography, and the future of local and global water challenges. Includes two natural systems: watersheds and the water cycle, and three human infrastructure adaptations: water supply, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management.

ASK IT NOW: Immediate Q&A with each expert to solicit deeper understanding of the topic for classroom application.

CLASSROOM APPLICATION: Teacher-led workshops on Community Curriculum Case Studies using problem-based learning to meet both educational standards and water resource management goals.

VIDEO LIBRARY:  Each expert talk (with beautiful slides!) is captured professionally on five video cameras, edited and posted online with annotated links and curriculum connections to catalyze ongoing classroom inquiry and problem-solving.

POLICYMAKERS TOWN HALL:  Elected officials and staff from city and county government will share a unique civics lesson on: (1) innovations in water resource policy development, (2) their vision for the future of integrated water management, and (3) strategies for strengthening the relationship between what cities need to accomplish and what students learn in school.
