Join us for an evening with pedal steel guitarist Bob Hoffnar as he talks a bit about the history of pedal steel guitar music and how he incorporates this legacy into contemporary sounds, followed by a performance featuring Hoffnar and Janie Cowan on upright bass. Beverages will be available for donation.
About Bob Hoffnar:
Bob Hoffnar is a veteran pedal steel guitarist who incorporates a wide variety of traditional music aesthetics and approaches to the instrument into his playing. He has undertaken studies with Pandit Pran Nath, a Hindustani classical singer and teacher of the Kirana Gharana (school), as well as lessons with Buddy Charleton, who played pedal steel with Texan Earnest Tubb, one of the founders of American Country music. Hoffnar graduated from the Purchase Conservatory of Music in 1998 with a BFA in Composition. Since then he has delved into numerous projects in the music and film industry with popular musicians such as Norah Jones, Cyndi Lauper, and Scott Weiland. He currently performs with his new music/lounge band The Mood Illusion and with a variety of Austin-based country and honkytonk bands.

Parking Information:
Parking for the event is available in Texas Folklife's gravel driveway, on the street immediately in front of the building, and Asterra Properties (located next door). Overflow parking is available at Recycled Reads (5335 Burnet Rd). Please use the spaces in the back or on the South side of the Recycled Reads building.
