Back to the 80's: The Totally Awesome Musical! Presented by SAHS Theater Arts
The totally radical decade best remembered as the time of Atari, Michael Jackson, and Rubiks Cubes returns in wicked fashion on stage at the Elizabeth Bentley Theater as SAHS Theater Arts presents Back to the 80s: The Totally Awesome Musical! Featuring 23 beloved 80s classics including Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, this high-energy show opens January 13th. Performances are January 13th, 14th, 16th, 20th, and 21st at 7:00pm and Sunday, January 15th at 2:00pm. Back to the 80s is a familiar-seeming journey into the high school experience of Corey Palmer, your average kid with a crush on the girl next door, Tiffany Houston. Standing in Coreys way, however, is Michael Feldman, captain of the football team and the coolest guy in school. Together with his best friends Alf Bueller and Kirk Keaton, Corey navigates through running for class president, his first house party, and eventually his senior prom. In true 80s fashion, many hijinks ensue including a rigged election, a fake secret admirer, and even a visit from Master Yoda himself.
This co-production of SAHS Theater Arts and SAHS Choir is filled to the brim with enough references to make anyone who lived through the era of Reagan feel right at home. Join us as the Bentley Theater becomes a time machine (with far more comfortable seating than a DeLorean) primed and ready to transport audiences back to a time when Rick Astley was cool in a totally non-ironic way, when the hair was big and the shoulder pads were even bigger, and when a regular kid from Jersey could move to California, learn martial arts from an enigmatic maintenance man, and defeat a blonde villain and his years of training with one well-placed crane kick to the face.
Back to the 80s: The Totally Awesome Musical! features Sophomore Nate Corneliusen as Corey Palmer and Junior Drew May as Tiffany Houston. Michael Feldman is played by Senior Cabeau Schuerger and Mr. Cocker and Miss Brannigan, the teachers asked to corral this group of walking high school stereotypes, are played by Senior Eli Willis and Sophomore Kassidy Davis.
Back to the 80s is directed by SAHS Theater Arts Director Benjamin Sell with musical direction by SAHS Choir Director Brett DeYoung.
