"This California girl comes by her mountain-music sensibility with true authenticity, with original songs deeply rooted in her family's frontier experience." --Dan Ruby, FestivalPreview.com

Shasta county native Rita Hosking is a favorite of northern California music fans. Over the years, shes given memorable homecoming performances at several Northern California venues, including Bernies Guitar, Gray Pine Farm, The Pilgrim Church, The Music Connection, and the Old City Hall. For this concert with Rita Hosking, she will be joined by her husband, Sean Feder on Dobro and banjo, and the Grant School Choir.

Rita grew up on Hatchet Mountain (Fall River area) in eastern Shasta County, where she internalized dusty woodsheds, the scent of springwater, forest fires and the troubles of rural economies. Her musical experience began as a child at church, and under the wings of an old time jug band made up of seasoned mountain characters. A descendant of Cornish miners who sang in the mines, Rita grew up with deep regard for folk music and the power of the voice. Her concerts feature a blended mix of gritty and
mournful mountain music, folk, country, and bluegrass that are rooted in her familys frontier existence, as well as a sprinkling of classics by the likes of Flatt and Scruggs, Ralph Stanley and Bill Monroe.

Rita's style of country-folk has been lauded for story and sense of place, and her performances praised for capturing the audience. Honors include winning the 2008 Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest at the Sisters Folk Festival, placing as a finalist in the 2009 Telluride Music Festival Troubadour Contest, and more.  "This California girl comes by her mountain-music sensibility with true authenticity, with original songs deeply rooted in her family's frontier experience," (Dan Ruby, FestivalPreview.com) and Rita's fans call her "the real deal".

Rita has released an album every two years since her first in 2005. Come Sunrise, Rita's 2009 record, won Best Country Album in the 2010 Independent Music Awards. Her sixth and latest album, Frankie and the No-Go Road, was described by The Guardian magazine as one of Americanas finest concept albums, showcasing Ritas sure musical touch and distinctive homespun vocal style. The album, as well as her three previous releases (Come Sunrise, Burn and Little Boat), were produced by Rich Brotherton, producer, engineer, and guitar player in the Robert Earl Keen Band, and recorded at his studio, Ace Recording, in Austin, Texas.
