Frankie Gavin with Tommy McCarthy & Louise Costello
Frankie Gavin, Irish fiddle virtuoso, has had a profound influence on Irish traditional fiddle playing in technique, style & repertoire. He began playing the tin whistle at 4 years of age and the fiddle at 10. As a teen, he won first place in both the All-Ireland Under-18 Fiddle & Flute competitions and at 18 he founded the internationally renowned band, De Dannan. Besides DeDannan, he has also played and recorded with such notables as The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Stephane Grappelli, Earl Scruggs & Yehudi Menhuin as well as with a number of great contemporary traditional Irish music singers & players.

In addition to playing for Englands Prince Charles and French President Francois Mitterand, Gavin has entertained 4 American presidents: John F. Kennedy on his historic visit to Ireland in 1963 as well as Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama.

In 2010, Gavin officially became the fastest fiddle-player in the world with an entry in The Guinness Book of Records for his performance of The Foxhunters Reel at 150 beats per minute! As noted by Fintan Vallely, Live, his tune sets are perfectionism.Tears and cheers erupt spontaneously; the good will of his mixed-age audiences has always been great sauce.  (For more information go to frankiegavin-dedannan.irish)

London born Tommy McCarthy (fiddle) grew up playing with all the legendary Irish players who lived in London such as Mairtin Byrnes, Raymond Roland & Roger Sherlock. With his family, he performed throughout Ireland and the UK, including Londons Royal Albert Hall. He emigrated from Ireland with his parents in the early 50s.

From an early age in Galway, Louise Costello (banjo) played with her father and local musicians, Joe Morris and Jim OBrian and in her late teens she became part of Galways vibrant session scene.

Louise and Tommy met in 1987 playing trad sessions in the Boston area. They continue to play together and with many notable musicians, including the Chieftains.

Together they opened The Burren Pub in Somerville, MA, in 1996, which has become a premier venue for traditional music in the United States. And in 2011, they launched The Burren Backroom Series, along with Brian ODonovan, host of A Celtic Sojurn on WGBH radio, featuring core performers from many aspects of traditional music. In 2014, they released their critically acclaimed album, Grace Bay, featuring original compositions by Tommy as well as traditional favorites. (For more information go to www.burren.com)
