What better way to celebrate the upcoming elections and the start of LUCOs 22nd season than with an all-American program opening with Aaron Coplands timeless classic the Fanfare for the Common Man and Joan Towers counterpart, the Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.

New to LUCO is the music of Kurt Weill, who came to the US from Germany, fleeing the Nazis in 1933, and became an American citizen in 1943. His Second Symphony, composed a year after his arrival in his new home, is a direct reflection on American culture and was his last purely orchestral work.

Bass Trombonist, Douglas Nierman, makes his LUCO debut with a concerto by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. Ms. Zwilich is the first woman composer to be selected as a recipient of a Pulitzer Prize in Music.

And finally, of all the works composed in the US, Samuel Barbers Adagio for Strings is the most often performed and deservingly so. It is a deeply poignant work that has inspired many films and documentaries seeking deep emotions.
