Diocesan Acolyte Festival
How can you carry a stick, play with fire and move around in church? By being an acolyte! Come to the 2016 Diocesan Acolyte Festival at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan Street, Albany, NY 12210 on Saturday, October 29th. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., the Festival will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the last workshop will be done by 2:30 p.m.

The day begins with a Grand Procession, with all acolytes processing. All parishes are invited to bring cassocks, surplices, torches, processional crosses, thuribles, and such to make the Grand Procession truly grand! Acolytes will receive either a Diocesan Medallion (for first-time participants) or a pin as part of the ceremony.

After lunch, there follows a variety of workshops. The workshops this year include:

Holy Smoke, which provides hands-on training for acolytes in the practice of using a Thurible.

FUNdamentals of the Eucharist, which offers instruction to new acolytes and serves as a tuneup for more experienced servers.

Cathedral Tours are offered for those who want to learn more about the First Cathedral of the Episcopal Church.

The Ark of the Covenant showcases a replica of the Ark from the Old Testament and exposes attendees to the worship of the Old Testament.

The Biblical and Theological foundations of the Eucharist

The cost for the Acolyte Festival is $15.00. Please register in advance, so that the Cathedral staff can adequately plan for meals.

Note: Those who have attended previous Acolyte Festivals are requested to bring their medallions. First-time participants will be given medallions and "seasoned veterans" will be given pins to add to their medallion ribbon.
