The Body as Storyteller
What stories does your body hold that youve forgotten? In this interdisciplinary performance workshop you will uncover the stories that live in your body, explore how to translate words and concepts into movement and much more. Come prepared to move as well as write and bring a your most playful and open self.
Miss AuroraBoobRealis a.k.a. DawN Crandell lights up the night stage with her unique mixture of raw and earthy, wild and fearless burlesque! She is an interdisciplinary performing artist creating in the intersections of burlesque, dance, theater and poetry. Central to her existence in this world is the fact that as a person she cannot and will not separate herself from her art, her race and her political beliefs. DawN holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College with a focus in performing arts, and an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College with a focus on 20th Century Black Radical Artists and the intersections of dance, poetry and theater. A teaching artist and fitness instructor by day, she brings eighteen years of facilitation experience to the table. She is a core member of Playback NYC, an improvisational hip-hop theater company; co-founder of Brown Girls Burlesque and most recently brASS: Brown RadicalAss Burlesque; and the creator of Mixed Movement, a unique improvisational dance event bridging the gap between the different dance communities. As a director, her credits include Una Aya Osatos exHOTic other and Kelsey Pyros Break the Cycle. DawN has performed extensively in NYC over the past twenty years at such venues as Brooklyn Academy of Musics Harvey Theater, New York Theater Workshop, Lincoln Center- Out of Doors, Central Park Summerstage, The Legendary Blue Note, La Mama, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and Bowery Poetry Club. She has performed across the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as the United States, headlining the 2016 Texas Burlesque Festival. This fall, Miss AuroraBoobRealis returns to Texas to star in Coco Lectrics The Purple Party before heading to Seattle to teach at BurlyCon, Seattles annual burlesque educational and social convention.
