Ojai Film Society presents: Song of Lahore
THIS IS THE FIRST OF TWO THEMATICALLY RELATED SCREENINGS ON CONSECUTIVE DAYS AT THE OJAI ART CENTER THEATER, PROUDLY PRESENTED BY OJAI FILM SOCIETY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OJAI ART CENTER.
In Song of Lahore, a skillfully crafted documentary from Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and filmmaker Andy Schocken, a small group of Pakistani classical musicians must travel to New York to gain some measure of the respect and acclaim their ancestors enjoyed as inheritors of a centuries-long tradition of artistic excellence. But when an amazing recording of Dave Brubecks Take Five on traditional Pakistani instruments goes viral on You Tube, East meets West in improvisational harmony, and a combined cross-cultural orchestra takes to the stage with Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center. A fascinating study in musical crossover, Song of Lahore positively sings.
