The event, chaired by Mary Ann Kresse, will honor those who support National Service and Volunteerism in Western New York. The emcee for the evening, Katie Gibas, from Time Warner Cable, will host a program to present our first annual "Champions of Service" awards honoring those who support National Service and have made a significant impact in WNY. Awardees include community supporter - Dr. Charles Massey, program alumnus - Emily Oaks and community partner - Buffalo Promise Neighborhood.
We will also hear how a term of service at TSC has impacted the lives of two Buffalo residents.
Entertainment will be provided by Joe Lepsch, one half of the dynamic duo, "Joe Squared."
Proceeds from our first annual Sweet for Service will benefit TSC The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc, a Buffalo based non-profit, 501(c)(3) agency which creates opportunities for all individuals to serve their communities, challenging them to turn their ideals into action and their passion into positive change. TSC provides excellent programming in:
Education: AmeriCorps Build Lives Through Education (ABLE), providing children tutoring through social/emotional and math interventions
Financial Opportunity: Serve New York VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and Regional Opportunity Corps, addressing the injustices and causes of poverty through various financial development, financial literacy, economic development and independent living initiatives;
Youth Development: YouthBuild, a comprehensive youth and community development program which enables participants to obtain high school equivalency and advance toward post-secondary education or career-oriented employment;
Volunteerism: VolunteerWNY - which makes a demonstrable impact on the root causes of poverty in the counties of: Erie, Niagara, Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua through the recruitment, training, placement and management of thousands of volunteers.
