Of all the great wines in the world, Madeira might be the grandest of them alland yet the most misunderstood, overlooked, and consequently the most underpriced. The history of Madeira is closely tied to the early days of the shipping industry and therefore cannot be told without the fantastic tales of the high seas. Barrels and bottles were surely plundered over the years and ended up as pirate booty. A proverbial treasure chest will be unlocked on November 12 as we toast to this fabled island wine and its colorful history.
Come try the astonishing range of complexity from this remote Atlantic isle and see what all the fuss is about. And feel free to come adorned in your favorite swashbuckling outfit -- it's a costume party, too, after all! If and when the Madeira gets all plundered, worry not -- as this shindig will turn into a Champagne pop-up right in the middle of our Pirates & Madeira party!
You will drink wines that are older than your grandmother!
The details surrounding the event are top-secret but here are a few things we can say for sure:
There will be a slew of fun people dressed as pirates, bumbling Red Coats, and parrots drinking a whole lot of delicious Madeira floating around, much of it colheita (vintage).
There will be representations of all grapes and styles including Verdelho, Malvazia, Boal, Sercial, Tarrantez, and Tinta Negra from multiple producers.
There will also be wines from some of the most coveted producers on this special island available by the bottle at extremely reasonable prices.
