Artaxiad: A Celebratory Armenian Feast
barev.

I am very pleased to announce the first TONIC & JUICE pre-ticketed Armenian dinner party, taking place Thursday, October 6th, at the laissez-faire style cafe, Le Petit Zinc in Detroit's Corktown Historic District.

In the year 88 B.C.E. the Kingdom of Armenia was at its pinnacle of greatness, during the Artaxiad Dynasty, rivaling even the power of Rome. Back then Armenia, the first country in the world to adopt Christianity in 301 A.D., was largely Zoroastrian, similar (but not the same) to paganism. Over millennia, Armenia has been conquered, reconquered, sacked, burned, invaded and re-birthed. A country full of rich history and mystical legends, Armenia remains a mysterious gem in the eyes of the world. But one thing is clear, between both the ancient times and modern day, Armenians hold tight to identity and family. And vegetarian cuisine has a strong and fruitful history within the cultural threads of it's people.

Lenten (vegetarian) Armenian food is characterized by the vibrancy of its ingredients, the abundant use of fresh herbs and legumes, the peppering of sweet and sour complexity and a notable wholesomeness.

Plating is communal and family-style, as such food is presented in phases, not courses. I will reset plates just once, as to respect the wonderful flavor combinations that all the food brings together. In addition, please note that tips to waitstaff are very much appreciated.

Complimentary herbal tea and spearmint water will be available and BYOB is encouraged. Recommended pairings are sweet wine, brandy or cognac.

Tickets are $40 individual or $70 for a couple, credit processing is separate. Please be assured that though French style course settings will not be present there will be an abundance of aliments, laughs, delicacies and hubbub throughout the evening. Come hungry and jovial!

You MUST purchase ahead of time to reserve your seats, no walk-ins will be permitted without consent ahead of time. Space is very very limited. Please note that I will not be able to accommodate all allergies or diet restrictions, nuts and dairy will be used. Email me directly with any concerns or special requests ahead of time and if possible I will try to accommodate.

Thank you.
