ZACH BROCK
I called the great French violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and I said So, whos the new cat?
Whos got the stuff? And he said Zach Brock.  Stanley Clarke

Heralded as the pre-eminent improvising violinist of his generation, Zach Brock is an
award-winning jazz violinist and composer whose music draws on the traditions of jazz,
classical, world, and popular music. The Chicago Tribune recognized Zachs recent
recording Perpetuity as one of its top ten jazz recordings of 2014 and Downbeat
Magazines 61st Annual Critics Poll named Zach its Rising Star Violinist of 2013.
Zachs acclaim as a bandleader has grown through appearances at venues such as
Carnegie Hall in New York City and festivals such as Tudo é Jazz in Ouro Preto,
Brazil. The reputation of Zach as a master musician and sideman has spread through
collaborations with legendary bassist Stanley Clarke, Grammy-award-winning supergroup
Snarky Puppy, and contemporary jazz masters Phil Markowitz and Dave Liebman.
In 2012 Zach became the first violinist ever to record for Criss Cross Records in its 32-
year history.

PHIL MARKOWITZ
A Veteran of the bands of Chet Baker, PHIL MARKOWITZ is a thirty plus year veteran
of the International Jazz scene. His original compositions range from hard-cutting
chromaticism to the most lyrical post-romantic ballads. Inventive, virtuosic, and
accessible, Markowitz presents a forward-looking vision for contemporary music. Phils
notoriety as a composer came in the late 1970s when he was playing in a NYC club with
legendary jazz harmonica player, Toots Thielemans As they were playing Phils
composition, Sno Peas, pianist Bill Evans walked in, loved the song, and asked Toots
to bring it to their upcoming recording session. Evans and Thielemans subsequent
recording of Sno Peas on the classic Grammy-nominated album, Affinity, put
Markowitz on the map as a venerable jazz composer.
