SUGA Dinner at The Florence
Savannah Urban Garden Alliance will host a fundraising dinner with award-winning chef Hugh Acheson on Monday, October 10, 2016, at The Florence restaurant.
Funds generated at the event will be used to advance SUGAs School Garden Manager program, which has already been successfully implemented at Coastal Middle School.
The menu for the evening will feature a whole hog roast, raw oysters, The Florences signature pizzas, vegetable dishes and desserts, as well as beer and wine.
Tickets for the event are $75 per person.
The SUGA School Garden Manager program aims to increase the use of existing school gardens and related curriculum by alleviating the time constraints that basic garden maintenance demands from teachers. SUGAs goal is to be able to offer the program to all Savannah Chatham County public schools that have a school garden. A comprehensive amount of research has shown that garden-based learning contributes to increased nutrition awareness, environmental awareness, learning achievements, life skills, health and wellness. Currently, seven local schools have applied for assistance under the program.
Savannah Urban Garden Alliance (SUGA) is a non-profit organization that aims to increase access and awareness to local, healthy food, one garden at a time. The organization supports the gardening movement in Savannahs communities through outreach and education. Current initiatives include a garden tool drive that will result in the distribution or loan of tools, for free, to area gardens. SUGA also hosts a monthly networking event for gardeners and their supporters, building awareness and community amongst area gardens.
