A rare experiential class in methods of grounding, cleansing, protecting & renewing oneself, one's space, & others.
Upon popular request, ethnobotanist Kathleen Harrison shares what she has learned in years of fieldwork among indigenous cultures and via life itself. "Sweeping the mountain of nerves" is a phrase from a Mazatec healer in indigenous Mexico. We will use leaves, aroma, vocalizing, visualizing, movement, symbolic action and breath. We learn to root ourselves, to reach upward, to surround ourselves with protection, to let go of what we don't need. We will invoke the wind to bring what is fresh and renewing. These are techniques (limpias, shakapa, kuehu) from the forests people of Peru and Ecuador, from the mountains of Mexico, from Hawaiian healing, from the shores of California, and from our own far-flung ancestors. There will be stories told. Come feel renewed.
