We believe that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
Many blind and visually impaired individuals fear losing their benefits and are not aware of work incentives. Discover how some NFB San Diego Chapter members are achieving their dreams of employment, volunteering and higher education.
Less than 14% of working-age blind and visually impaired persons have completed a bachelors degree. This is due, in part, to access-barriers to textbooks and online higher education platforms.
More alarming is the fact that more than 62% of blind and visually impaired working-age adults are unemployed. This is largely due to the vast majority of employers' misconceptions and low expectations of otherwise qualified blind and visually impaired adults.
Light refreshments will be served. One lucky person will win a WalMart gift card. Well-behaved service dogs are welcome.
