Rahim AlHaj and Trio Benefit for Syrian Children
Rahim AlHaj Trio, some of the world's most acclaimed contemporary artists, and Turner Carroll Gallery have joined together in support of the masses of Syrian children who have lost their parents in the ongoing war, and who are in urgent need of medical care.
AlHaj is a native of Iraq, now an American citizen. He has recorded with Smithsonian Folkways, and most recently performed with his trio at the Kennedy Center. He is a two time Grammy nominee. All funds from ticket sales will be used to pay for the most urgent medical cases among orphaned Syrian children in a camp in Lebanon.
More than 40 outstanding contemporary artists have donated artworks to be auctioned during the event. Artists from Israel, China, Romania, France, Iraq, Syria, and throughout the US have given beautiful artworks for this essential cause. Bid on artworks here: http://www.turnercarrollevents.com/auction/
Syrian journalist and professor Nada Kherbik; art historian and Dean of College of Fine Arts at University of New Mexico, Kymberly Pinder; historian Leslie Kim; former diplomat and author of Lost History: The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Scientists, Thinkers, and Artists, Michael Hamilton Morgan, will give very brief comments about the contributions of Syrian culture and the facts of the current situation.
A reception with the artists and musicians will precede the concert, from 6-7 pm. The concert will begin at 7 pm.
