Farmers' Market Tour + Cooking Class in Berkeley
The best meals start with the best ingredients, and the best ingredients come fresh from the farmers market! In this class, you will tour the downtown Berkeley farmers market with a professional chef where you will learn whats in season, meet the growers and learn how to pick out the best fruits and vegetables. After we shop, well head over to the kitchen to cook lunch in a class that features all of the fresh produce. Students will prepare recipes such as:
Fresh cranberry Bean Soup au Pistou Roasted Delicata Squash with Quinoa, Pomegranate Seeds and Feta Endive and Apple Slaw with Candied Pecans and Creamy Cheddar Dressing Grilled Chicken with Sweet and Hot Peppers, Olives and Capers Fresh Harvest Walnut Tart with Honey Ice Cream
Note: you will need to arrange for transportation between the Berkeley Farmers' Market and the Cooking School Kitchen, about 3 miles away. It's possible that we will have room in a carpool for some students.
About The Field Kitchen:
The Field Kitchen is a popup cooking school that offers classes in kitchens and out on farms in the San Francisco Bay Area.
About the Instructors:
Frances Wilson is a seasoned food professional who taught the professional culinary program at the renowned Tante Maries Cooking School in San Francisco for more than ten years and now teaches at the Silverado Cooking School in Napa. Prior to that, she was the chef at Lalimes restaurant in Berkeley.
Jen Knapp taught recreational classes and led private culinary events at Tante Maries Cooking School for 15 years, in addition to working as a private chef and caterer throughout the Bay Area. She is also certified as a Master Taster with ChefsBest, where she does sensory evaluation of consumer food and beverage products.
Frances and Jen enjoy sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge about food and cooking with others.
Cancellation policy: A full refund will be issued if we are notified 5 or more days prior to a class. If you cancel a class between 48 hours and less than 5 days, a 50 percent refund will be offered. If you cancel less than 48 hours before the start of a class, we regret that no refunds or credits can be issued, however you are welcome to send someone in your place.
