The Music of Sayyid Darwish by Aswat - October 15, 2016
Join the Bay Area's premier Arab music ensemble, Aswat, on October 15th at Sunjams for an intimate garden concert as they perform some of Egyptian composer Sayyid Darwish's (1892-1923) most memorable songs.
Complimentary food and beverages will be served at this event and valet parking will be provided.
Tickets purchased in advance do not guarantee bleacher seating (available on a first come first serve basis). This is an outdoor concert, you are welcome to bring your own seating to the event. We also have picnic blankets, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
For those guests using public transportation, the Sunjams mainstage is accessible via the Orinda BART station on the Pittsburgh/Bay Point Line. From the station, you can either take Orinda Taxi or the Contra Costa County Bus.

ASWAT is a multi-ethnic and multi-racial music ensemble that reaches out to the diverse Bay Area community with folkloric, classical, and contemporary Arabic music. Aswat's doors remain open to all who want to participate in the exciting, enriching exchange between Arab Americans and other communities through the universal language of music.
The Sunjams Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to use music as a healing force. We present live outdoor concerts as a way of bringing people together who also believe in the healing power of music. Our goal is to help fund music education in local public elementary schools because we believe that music education is one of the most effective means of helping kids develop a positive connection with school. We are a 501(c) 3 foundation. (EID)/ TAX ID 47-4435137
This event is sponsored by Zawaya, a non-profit organization that seeks to contribute to the multicultural discourse of the Bay Area with the Arab arts. Zawaya means aspects or corners, suggesting the many art forms to be discovered and enjoyed in Arab culture. It was founded in 2003 by Nabila Mango and Haya Shawwa Ben Halim, two Arab-American women who recognized that the challenges faced by the Arab-American community in the Bay Area requires a creative response. With Zawaya, they sought to give the Arab community a voice, including a musical one. Aiming to address stereotypes and misconceptions, Zawaya offers a genuine image of Arab Americans and their rich civilization, which can only be a source of strength for American society.
