An Evening with the Baxters
The Friends of Evergreen (cemetery) in Portland in partnership with the VIA Agency present An Evening with the Baxters on Friday, September 16, from 5-7pm, at the VIA Agency (formerly the Baxter Library building) at 619 Congress St. The evening will feature a talk on James Phinney Baxter by retired Maine State Historian Earle Shettleworth, live music, and a charcuterie cocktail reception.
FREE Afternoon events from 2-4 pm include a walking tour of Baxter Woods given by Lynne Zimmerman and a re-dedication of the Baxter Monument in Evergreen Circle by historian Herb Adams and Dick Anderson.
All proceeds support the advancement of the mission of The Friends of Evergreen.
The Friends of Evergreen is dedicated to the preservation and protection of Evergreen Cemeterys natural beauty and its historic and cultural significance. The Friends encourage community involvement through programs, historical research, public education, and preservation projects.
