Hafla for Humanity: A Belly Dance Fundraiser
The 2720 stage will come to life with swirling silk veils, jingling finger cymbals, and the hypnotic drum beats of the Mediterranean as our local bellydancers join a global effort to raise money for the Yazidi women and girls who have been captured and enslaved by ISIS.
Lauren Zehara and Ami Amore are organizing this local event, which will be held at 2720 Cherokee and is open to the public. Tickets will be priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
The event is part of a global initiative called Global Hafla for Humanity. Bellydancers in more than 20 cities around the world will be holding events to raise money for the AMAR Foundation's "Escaping Darkness" campaign, which provides training to local doctors so they can offer the necessary crisis care and emotional support to the Yazidi women and girls who are escaping ISIS.
You'll be seeing a wide variety of dance styles, including traditional and modern dances from Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, and Morocco as well as fusion from the U.S. Performers include professional dancers and instructors from all over St. Louis and local student groups. Our featured guest performer, Christine Ferhat of Kansas City, will bring the house down with her lively, authentic Moroccan dance.
There will also be a silent auction and vending by NeeNee's Imports and Olive Street Printing Company, with a portion of vending proceeds benefitting the charity.
Come learn more about this expressive art form and support this important global charity effort.
Afterparty will be at Earthbound Beer on Cherokee. Earthbound will also be donating a portion of proceeds.
