Tierra Mestiza
The Cashion Cultural Legacy presents celebrated Mexican folk dance group, Los Lupeños de San José under the direction of choreographer Samuel Cortez, in "Tierra Mestiza", a full dance concert production with guest artists Los Lupeños Juvenil, Madrigal Musical, and Mariachi Estelar at 8pm Saturday, September 24, 2016 and at 2pm Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater (corner of Alum Rock and King) in San José. Tierra Mestiza will showcase 8 regions of Mexican folk dance & music.

ABOUT LOS LUPEÑOS DE SAN JOSÉ Founded in 1969 by visionaries Ramón Morones and Susan Cashion, Los Lupeños is recognized as one of the earliest Mexican folk dance companies in California. Los Lupeños is known for its artistry, history, traditions, innovation, and endurance. Los Lupeños artists are passionate about learning and executing their art form, representing their culture, and being a positive force within the California dance community. Los Lupeños Juvenil was formed in 2015 and the talented young dancers represent the next generation of Lupeños!

ABOUT MARIACHI ESTELAR Formed in April 2014, Mariachi Estelar is a youth group from the city of Gilroy composed of 10 musicians ages 13-25. Mariachi Estelar works very hard to maintain their Mexican musical traditions alive. They strive to make a positive impact on other young musicians by reaching out to them and sharing their culture.
ABOUT SYLVIA CHACON, OUR SATURDAY EVENING MC A recognized voice in the Bay Area, Sylvia Chacón has been entertaining and informing us between songs for decades. She is currently one of the radio personalities of "The Breeze 98.1 - KISQ San Francisco" and "V101.1 - Sacramento". Sylvia also performed Mexican folklórico dance for 20 years and her children have kept the tradition going!
ABOUT RODRIGO GARCIA, OUR SUNDAY AFTERNOON MC An accomplished director, actor, educator and translator, Rodrigo García graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City in modern dance and drama. He has translated into Spanish the works of celebrated authors and helped develop the Spanish adaptation of Sandra Cisneros The House of Mango Street for Teatro Visión. Rodrigo has directed Teatro Visión's production of Macario for the last three years. He is also the founder of the theater ensemble Teatro Alebrijes for which he has directed several original works. Rodrigo is a Theater Communications Group (TCG) fellow, a graduate of the Multicultural Arts Leadership Institute (MALI) Class of 2009, and a member of the National Association for Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC).
ABOUT THE CASHION CULTURAL LEGACY The non-profit The Cashion Cultural Legacy (CCL) is committed to sustaining the preservation, presentation, and education of Mexican folk culture through dance. In honor and recognition of Dr. Susan V. Cashion and her many contributions to the dance world, the CCL pursues this mission by operating a professional Mexican folk dance company (Los Lupeños de San José), offering accessible classes to the community (Los Lupeños Academy), operating an artist exchange of dancers, directors, and choreographers between California and México, and researching and documenting the art form.
