Join us as Bloedel Reserve hosts two internationally acclaimed musicians, Dale Henderson and William Chapman Nyaho, as they perform J. S. Bach's da Gamba Sonatas.
THE NEW YORK ARTIST WHO INSPIRED THE WORLD TO PLAY BACH TAKES OWN BACH JOURNEY, JOINING SEATTLE PIANIST WILLIAM CHAPMAN NYAHO
Phenom cellist Dale Henderson, who ignited the global Bach in the Subways musicians' movement, is crossing the country showcasing the entire J.S. Bach cello repertoire. On September 4 hell join forces with Ghanaian American pianist William Chapman Nyaho to present all three of Bach's Sonatas for Viola da Gamba & Harpsichord (on modern cello and piano). Performing together for the first time in early 2015, Dale and Nyaho instantaneously formed a warm friendship and sparked an exciting musical collaboration. Determined to delve deeper into this fantastic body of work, they debuted their Complete da Gamba Sonatas program on Seattle's Haller Lake Music Series in December 2015 and return now to perform for the outdoor concert series at Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island.
About the Artists
DALE HENDERSON Described by Yo-Yo Ma as "a very gifted musician, a natural cellist," Dale Henderson began studying cello when he was five. He enjoyed regular performances as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestra cellist, and made his professional solo debut at thirteen with the Buffalo Philharmonic and conductor Eiji Oue. In 1993, at the invitation of Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Dale attended the International Menuhin Music Academy in Gstaad, Switzerland. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Dale took his cello to the subways of New York in 2010 in an effort to champion classical music and deliver it to a wider audience. Five years later, those first impromptu Bach in the Subways concerts sparked a global Bach movement on five continents, inspiring thousands of musicians to play pop-up concerts in over 140 cities in 40 countries. He currently lives in New York City.

Dale now lives in New York City where he teaches, performs, and organizes Bach in the Subways, a solo project Henderson initiated in 2010 to bring live classical music to people who would not usually hear it, and which has since flowered into an international movement.
WILLIAM CHAPMAN NYAHO Nyaho, a Ghanaian American studied at St. Peter's College, Oxford University (UK), where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Honour School of Music. He continued his piano studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, Switzerland, the Eastman School of Music where he graduated with his Master of Music degree, and at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Chapman Nyahos performances have taken him to Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and North America, including Washington D.C.s Kennedy Center. He performs as soloist with various orchestras, including the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.
Concert Doors are at 6pm, with the performance to begin shortly thereafter. The concert will take place outside, weather permitting. Picnicking is allowed, but please no outside alcoholic beverages. Wine & beer will be available for sale, with all proceeds benefiting Bloedel Reserve.
