House Concert - Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg

The next in a series of infrequent but wonderful house concerts will be Saturday evening, August 27 in Half Moon Bay (actually just north of Half Moon Bay, in Moss Beach). This time we're featuring Mike Marshall and Caterina Lichtenberg. I've known the two of them for a number of years, as Mike Marshall was the founder of the annual Mandolin Symposium in Santa Cruz along with his good friend David Grisman, which I attended and helped out with (playing bass) for the last four years. I'm very excited to have them coming to play for us.

Two of greatest mandolinists in the world join forces and take you on an historic and global tour of the mandolin.
Between the two of them, Mike and Caterina can perform the entire scope of mandolin repertoire, from Caterinas European classical mandolin expertise on both Neapolitan and Baroque Mandolins (Soprano Lute), to Mikes Americana, Bluegrass, Brazilian and original music improvisations. In one evening, these two cover the entire scope of mandolin history and literature.
Three time Grammy nominee, Mike Marshall has been at the cutting edge of New Acoustic music for over 35 years with collaborations and recordings with Stephane Grappelli, Joshua Bell, Bela Fleck, David Grisman, Edgar Meyer, Sam Bush, Chris Thile, The Turtle Island Quartet and Mark OConnor. He has been a member of several ground breaking ensembles including The Montreux Band, Psychograss, The Modern Mandolin Quartet and The David Grisman Quintet. As an educator Mike founded the Mandolin Symposium and currently teaches mandolin through the Artistworks online music school. He can be heard on over 40 of his own recordings.
Caterina Lichtenberg holds the worlds only position of Mandolin Professor at the Music Conservatory in Cologne, Germany. She has over 10 cds to her credit. As a featured soloist Ms.Lichtenberg has performed with the New Century Orchestra under Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, the LA Guitar Quartet, the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, Germany under Diego Fasolis and the Aachen Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed with the Dresden Symphony Orchestra, the MDR Orchestra under Fabio Luisi, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly.

You've likely heard of the mandolin, but how about mandocello? This is your chance to hear this rare and exotic beast. Mike plays it like no one else. This will be a wonderful evening of amazing music.
As always, this will be at the lovely home of one of our friends.

If you were at our last house concert and enjoyed it, come again, and bring your friends. If you missed it last time, here's another chance to see great music in an up-close-and-personal setting. If you can't make it, tell your friends anyway!
This will be a gathering of many people who know each other one way or another, so we want to give it a community feel. We will frontload the event with some food and drink, but ask that you also bring a small contribution of food or beverage to share. This will be a two hour, two set gig, starting at 7:30 PM, with the doors opening around 6:30 PM. There is ample street parking.
We have a suggested $30 ticket price for this event. If you would like to attend, and want or need to be either more or less generous than the $30 ticket price, please send me a message, and we will take care of that at the door, rather than through the Brown Paper Tickets link.
