Moderated by Christin Evans, Menlo Park Councilmembers Ray Mueller and Catherine Carlton, Belle Haven resident Cecilia Taylor, and East Palo Alto activist Kyra Brown
The Almanac recently reported that San Mateo County added 55,000 jobs and built 2000 housing units between 2010 and 2014. That's about 1 housing unit for 28 new employees. Where are all those people living? The past few years have seen a steady escalation of the housing crisis characterized by evictions and steep rent increases for those unfortunate enough to not own their home.
On this special night, we invite members of the community to hear and share the very personal stories of how people in our community are dealing with this issue. We have gathered a number of stories which will be read aloud, and we encourage you to share your story during the open mic portion of the evening.
All the members of the Menlo Park City Council and the Housing Commission are invited to attend. Please join us for this timely event to raise awareness about the housing situation in our community. Kepler's has a long and proud history of bringing the community together to discuss the important issues of the day and we hope you will join us for this very important discussion.
