In Indonesian and Batak Karo with English Subtitles
This is an extraordinary biopic of Likas Taringan, a remarkable Batak Karo woman of North Sumatra,who later became Likas Gintings, wife of Lieutenant General Djamin Ginting, a national hero who fought against the Dutch colonial government.
Rako Prijatno, the film director (Best Director, Piala Citra 2013) captured the essence of North Sumatra's landscapes through the wonderful cinematography. Filming took place on location in North Sumatra, Bakkara, Dolok Sanggul, Berastagi, Kabanjahe, Tebing Tinggi, Pamah Semilir, Medan, Jakarta and Ottawa, Canada. The story is set in Indonesia from 1930s to 2000.
The film also portrays some of the more interesting cross-cultural aspects faced by Indonesians living abroad.
