This Series

This is Session One of HSCs Middle Managers Series. There are seven sessions in the series which covers all of the

critical skills and insights middle managers need. The remaining six sessions will be offered approximately one per month

following this one. The full series:

2. Coaching and Delegating with Nadia Rubaii and Jeff Shepardson

3. Building Your Team with Laura Branca and Kirby Edmonds

4. Managing Conflict with Jeff Shepardson and Nadia Rubaii

5. Recruiting and Managing Diversity with Kirby Edmonds and Laura Branca

6. Managing Group Meetings with Jeff Shepardson and Nadia Rubaii

7. Building Yourself: Finding and Keeping Your Balance with Karen Fritz

Persons who complete all seven of the sessions are awarded a Certificate of Completion for the Series. HSC anticipates

the series being taught every year.

This Workshop

This session is devoted to the broad category of Situational Leadership, focusing on the crucial role of middle managers as

the connective tissue of your organization. Through this critical leadership function

Clear expectations and standards are communicated

Workforce preparation and training are provided

Job-specific responsibilities are guided and delegated

Performance is honed, evaluated and recognized.

Alongside the tasks of supervision, middle managers and other supervisors are key to establishing and maintaining a

workplace climate and practices that foster a healthy balance between individuals development and creativity, and the

synergy of collaboration within a valued team.

Participants will be encouraged to understand their roles as leaders, and that leadership is a blend of your personal style,

commitment to the mission, and the ability to tailor your approach to make each member of your team successful.

About the Presenters

Laura Branca is a managing partner at Training for Change (TFC) Associates, founded in Ithaca in 1982. She leads

interactive workshops on organizational change,leadership development, group dynamics and facilitation skills team

building, communication and managing conflict, planning and decision-making, diversity inclusion, equity, and building

culturally competent organizations and coalitions. She particularly enjoys teaching . Her partner at TFC is Kirby Edmonds.

Laura is a co-owner of Moosewood, Inc., and a Senior Fellow with the Dorothy Cotton Institute. She also designs and

facilitates Multicultural Resource Centers Talking Circles on Race and Racism. Laura has thirty years of experience

teaching conflict resolultion, helping people resolve interpersonal, organizational and community conflicts, and mediating for

the Community Dispute Resolution Center.

Kirby Edmonds, a managing partner at Training for Change (TFC) Associates, has designed and delivered numerous

workshops for counselors in the areas of basic counseling, group counseling and developing cultural competency.

He has designed training workshops, written manuals, and provided consulting services for a wide variety of organizations

and networks including UNICEF, NTEU, Corning, Inc., Pennsylvania Department of Health, National Skill Standards Board,

National Rural Development Partnership, Supreme Court of Ohio, AFL/CIO, Solidarity Center, union executives in the

manufacturing sector, migrant workers alliance in New York State, and a multicultural leadership project for youth.

Kirby is a trained mediator with over 25 years experience managing and resolving interpersonal, multi-party, inter-
organizational and community conflicts. He also teaches courses in conflict management and cooperative conflict resolution.

If this occurs, we will post the cancellation on our website, email all registered participants, and refund any prepaid fees. If you plan to walk-in, please check our website for the most up-to-date information prior to attending.
