CULTIVATE
Join InterIm Community Development Association for Happy Hour in our Danny Woo Community Garden for an evening of light fare, libations, and sweet tunes. To honor the past, present, and future of Seattle's vibrant food justice scene we're highlighting local chefs of color and our collective contributions to the movement!
Join us and treat yourself to happy hour treats and wine featuring delicious, locally sourced food by A DJ and a Cook - Chef Tarik Abdullah, Hood Famous Bake Shop, and Food & Sh*t.
41 years ago, a group of community activists united to cultivate a barren hillside in Seattle's Chinatown-I.D. into a 1.5-acre community garden for elders, one of the first in the city of Seattle. This effort was a response to ongoing neighborhood neglect and the elder community's need for a safe growing and gathering space. What began as a simple terraced garden quickly transformed into a haven to escape social isolation, stay physically active, and access affordable culturally-relevant produce. In 2010 the garden grew to meet the needs of our changing community, forging inter-generational connections through children's garden programming. To this day, we work to amplify the stories and legacies of our gardeners and our land.
On this evening, join a special group of people to celebrate community power, cultural preservation, and environmental access.
