ADVANCING YOUR PRACTICE WEEKEND INTENSIVE (4 MODULES)
The Tripsichore (trip-SIC-or-ee) Vinyasa Weekend Intensive is dedicated to teaching strategies that will advance your yoga practice - how to get more out of your regular classes, and how to be your own teacher. Each workshop session includes sections on Pranayama and Philosophy not as separate subjects, but as material integral to the growth of your practice.

What does it take to move your practice forward? How do you start to work on and refine challenging material? Typical answers would consider either asanas that you are already good at or those you find difficult. Both can be used to deepen a practice. Notice, however, that a deeper practice isn't necessarily about introducing more difficult postures. Rather, it's the quality with which you perform them. This is the Tripsichore opportunity.

SATURDAY 9/24 and SUNDAY 9/25

Workshop Fee:  $300 for FOUR WEEKEND INTENSIVE MODULES or $75 per MODULE

SATURDAY 9/24 (9:00 - 11:30am)
MODULE 1: TRIPSICHORE SUN SALUTES / The Next Level of Fluidity
Tripsichore Sun Salutes explore ingenious ways of performing Vinyasa asana movement and ujjayi breath. Through the cultivation of evenness of breath coupled with evenness of movement, these Sun Salutes seek to bring evenness of mind while executing challenging sequences of postures.

SATURDAY 9/24 (1:00 - 3:30pm)
MODULE 2: INVERSIONS  MOVING WITH UJJAYI BREATH AND MOVING FROM THE MULA / What is the Most You Can Do to Create Inversions with the Least Effort?
There are two aspects to inversions  the thrill of the spectacularly acrobatic, and the peace of nearly effortless balancing. Both require skill and physical intelligence. They also require a degree of courage and a willingness to experiment. There are many methods used to attain inverted postures and a fantastic number of variations are possible. We will look at a number of these in this module. We will, however, be confining our explorations to what we see as having a distinctly yogic approach. The postures will be attempted using the yogic methods concerning breathing and focus. This means that they are, comparatively, safe to attempt. A deeper practice isn't just about achieving harder postures. Rather, it is also about the grace with which you perform them.

SUNDAY 9/25 (9:00 - 11:30am)
MODULE 3: OVERCOMING FEAR AND OTHER OBSTACLES / Unusual Asanas and Balances
There are postures we love to do and others we are not so fond of  some come to us with apparent ease and others are approached with a degree of dread. Yoga philosophy encourages, through action, the appreciation and awareness of the present moment without attachment to the outcome. Fear and other obstacles tend to be based on projections into the future or past. To overcome these tendencies, one identifies the fear or obstacle and strategies to confront them.

SUNDAY 9/25 (1:00 - 3:30pm)
MODULE 4: BACK BENDS DON'T HURT  / Finding Ease in the Extreme
One of the glories of physical practice is the grace of the backbend. However, the extremity of this movement is not regularly encountered in daily life. To execute these movements safely is a matter of technical exactitude which should be practiced by those who find it easy to do, and by those for whom it is a daunting prospect. This module that will look at how to achieve extreme back bending in a progressively safe way.

The Vinyasa proposal is fascinating  with the act of synchronizing the breath with yoga movement, the mind is brought to a place of deep concentration. Tripsichore Vinyasa is both challenging and fun, encouraging each student to explore the their broadest range of physical potential while providing the technical techniques that ensure safety. The dynamic Tripsichore techniques  in development for 30 years  endeavor to develop awareness of how you can enhance your spiritual quest through your physical practice.

Tripsichore Vinyasa is the evenly metered flow of movement, breath and thought which results in an uninflected state of being. Tripsichore sequences seek the integrity of the postures, by assuming that the mind's intention can be integrated with the body's movement through breathing techniques. The refinement of these techniques  something that seems deceptively simple  provides the means through which the body achieves remarkable shapes of considerable beauty.

In a Tripsichore workshop, you'll learn new and interesting variations on inverted postures and new ways to achieve back bends. You'll find out how to be more flexible and do things that look like they require considerable strength but, in accord with yogic principles, are achieved with grace and ease.

While Tripsichore is known for its amazing variety of unusual postures, it has developed through the use of orthodox yoga techniques. These techniques have been explored and experimented with, expanding the range of what can be derived from sound basics. The results continue to enlighten, proving that there is a lot more to yoga than just standard asanas.

EDWARD CLARK
Edward has been Artistic Director of Tripsichore since 1979, writing and producing yoga based work, which he and his company have performed around the world. He began studying yoga in 1979. Noteworthy among his teachers are Narayani and Giris Rabinovitch, but he confesses huge admiration for the Ashtanga Vinyasa, Sivananda, Iyengar and Viniyoga practices.

He fuses his keen artistic vision with a deep understanding of the essential pursuits of yoga practice and, in combining these, his teachings synthesize the use of breath, asana, choreography and philosophy into a demanding, entertaining and exhilarating amalgam.

In addition to constant touring, teaching and performing globally, he released a 2 DVD set in 2006 devoted to explaining the practice and with a record of some of the Tripsichore repertoire. In 2007, he co-released a double comedy CD called Kill The Guru.
