Jaxon Williams, Classical Guitar
Jaxon Williams presents Spanish Classical Guitar works as he returns from a year in Spain on a Fulbright Scholarship. Jaxon will be giving a tour of Spanish classical composition through the ages by playing works from Spanish composers of all periods including Miguel de Fuenllana, Jose Broca, Joaquin Rodrigo, Isaac Albeniz, and more. He will also be celebrating the release of his newest album," Far & Away".
BIO:
Jaxon Williams, a native of Ashland, OR, began the study of classical guitar at the age of seven. He was the 2005 and 2006 First Prize winner in the Oregon State high school classical guitar competition. He has performed as the featured soloist with Chamber Orchestras and as a solo guitarist in numerous concerts in the United States and internationally in countries such as Spain and Mexico. Most recently, he was a prizewinner in the 2014 Sierra Nevada International Guitar Competition, and a division winner in the 2014 ASU Concerto competition.
Jaxon has studied in master classes with world-renowned guitarists such as Scott Tennant, Jason Vieaux, Ana Vidovic, and David Russell. He has also studied intensively with 2010 Guitar Foundation of America 1st Prize winner Johannes Möller. He holds a BM in Guitar Performance from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Music in Guitar Performance from Arizona State University with Frank Koonce, where he was the sole recipient of the Burns Guitar Scholarship and also was awarded the Graduate Teaching Assistantship.
After completing studies with Juilliards Sharon Isbin at the Aspen Music Festival 2015, he won a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Seville, Spain where he studied with Francisco Bernier, Zoran Dukic, and Judicael Perroy as part of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide International Performance program. He also simultaneously studied Flamenco guitar at the renowned Fundación Cristina Heerén with guitarist Paco Cortés. While in Spain Jaxon gave concerts all throughout the country in Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Granada, and Cordoba. He performed in historic venues such as the Real Alcazar de Sevilla, the US Embassy in Madrid, and Madrid's Palacio Fernan Nuñez, among others.
Starting Fall 2016 Jaxon will begin he Doctorate studies at the Universty of Southern California, where he was awarded the Graduate Teaching Assistantship and will study with William Kannengiser of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
Jaxon has 3 albums: his self-titled debut album, his album La Catedral, which features works from Spain and Latin America, and his most recent album Far and Away, featuring works from a variety of composers and periods.
