Isaac Pastor-Chermak performs Bach's Six Suites for Solo Cello
Bach's suites for solo cello hardly need an introduction -- they are the cornerstone of every cellist's life work, and arguably the most important music written for the instrument. The music is sublime, visceral, moving, and uplifting. The cello suites are progressive, growing in size, scope, and complexity from the first to the sixth. Indeed, the sixth suite requires the cellist to use a five-string "violoncello piccolo" with a high E string! Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear all six suites, in order, in a single evening, all while benefiting St. Alban's Episcopal Church's Capital Campaign to refurbish the performance space.
A reception will follow, with refreshments from Domaine Carneros and Masse's Pastries.
Pastor-Chermak is principal cellist of the Portland Opera and Warterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, as well as a member of Black Cedar Trio, Monterey Symphony and Santa Cruz Symphony. Each summer, he performs at the Eisenstadt Classical Music Festival in Austria. He is an active freelancer around Northern California, with frequent appearances as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, recording artist, teacher and conductor. Pastor-Chermak is Beelard Foundation Artist-in-Residence at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music in Vacaville, and founder and conductor of Solano Junior Strings, a highly selective youth orchestra.
