Diaspora Arts Connection proudly presents: Shirin Majd & Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam in "Rebirth," inspired by the poetry of Iranian poet, Forough Farrokhzad. "Rebirth" is a combined art performance with acclaimed Iranian-Australian soprano, Shirin Majd as musical director and vocalist and Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam, the internationally recognized actor, choreographer, and dancer, based on the treasured poetry of contemporary female Iranian poet, Forough Farrokhzad. Rebirth is a collaboration of Iranian and American artists from New York, San Francisco, and Brisbane. The poems in the songs will be narrated in English for the non-Persian speakers.

Shirin was born in Tehran, Iran. She began studying music at the age of 10. At 18 she began studying opera, going on to study in Armenia with Hasmik Hasagorchian and later attending summer courses at the prestigious Universitat Mozarteum Salzburg, studying with Professor Alessandra Althoff and Barbara Bonney.

Since moving to Australia, Shirin has continued her education in classical singing with Margaret Schindler and she graduated in Post Graduate Diploma in Music (Classical Vocal Performance) at the Queensland Conservatorium and she is currently a student in Master of Vocal Pedagogy (Singing Teacher) at the same Conservatorium. She attended the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School in 2012.

In 2011 Shirin performed excerpts from Verdi & Puccini operas at Erfurt Hall and Fux Sal, Graz in Austria and has performed in various venues throughout Iran and Austria. After moving to Australia, she joined The Queensland Choir and the Brisbane Mahler Chorus.

Shirin has performed as a soloist with different ensembles in Brisb ane and was awarded best classical singer in BEMAC planet performances in 2012 where she won a scholarship to study music business.

Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam is a world renowned dancer & choreographer who has dazzled audiences with his artistic, theatrical, and interpretative dance performances throughout the world. He has a degree in History of Art and Theatre from University of Paris VIII and was a permanent member of the Comédie-Française for many years.

Shahrokh left his birth country of Iran at a very early age for France where he has resided, trained, and given performances ever since. In late 90s he joined the prestigious French theatre director Adriane Moushkins Théâtre du Soleil where he received training on folkloric Indian Kathakali, Indonesian Topeng, and Japanese Kabukli.

These exposures combined with Sufi forms and Flamenco which he later adopted, reshaped his style and direction in dancing, and became the dominant color of his performance. He has had numerous worldwide performances, such as his collaboration as main actor in productions of "Tartuffe", La Ville Parjure", and "des Atrides, his solo dance at international festivals such as Festival de Meridas, Festival d'Asturias, Festival de Chartres, and many others.

In late 90s, he established the Nakissa Dance Company and has performed many of his creations with this company worldwide, including A Persian Night's Dream, The Route of Orient, Nostalgia or Ghassedak, The Seven Pavilion of Love (Haft Peykar), Omar Khayam, Les Danses Mythologiques, Mani the Bouddha of Light, and Rumi Le brûlé. His recent work includes Love Stories of Shahnameh based on epic poems from the Ferdowsis Shahnameh Book of Kings.
