Voices of the Southwest
Voices of the Southwest: A two-hour seminar presentation on the Mayo, Yaqui, Tohono Oodham and Mexican musical and cultural traditions as they are practiced here in the Old Pueblo. Presentation will begin at 1:00 p.m. following a blessing by the Yaqui ceremonial dancers. Presentation will include: -Introduction to Mayo Indian Culture and Music. -In-depth analysis of the Yaqui Lenten Ceremonies. -An introduction to Waila music. -An introduction to Mexican Mariachi music, its origins and its widespread popularity in the Old Pueblo.
Live Musical Performances to illustrate the sounds and rhythms of a Bolero, Huapango, Joropo, Son Jaliscience and Polkas.
Blessing begins at 12 pm and the Seminar will begin with an Intermission. Coffee and Refreshments provided.
