art star- a star of the art world. in the 1960s led by Andy Warhol, artists became stars and being a star could make you an artist. The 70s and 80s created a boom of making being a star an art form. Also the title of a 2001 Yeah Yeah Yeahs song exploring the superficial world of the art stars
charlatan- a person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraud
Ten years ago an art star was created, out of the concept of being a an artist for being a star and vice versa. Born of glitter and garbage, of champagne wishes and corn dog dreams; of being in the gutter, but looking at the stars. artStar Charlatan took these themes and ran with it. At all times everything and nothing. A wannabe musician, costume designer, drag queen, performance artist Blurring the lines of what is punk vs mainstream, ugly vs beautiful and man vs woman, artStar Charlatan has worked in every meduim, every genre and on every platform. At what point did the faking turn into real art? Or did it ever really? At what point did the creator become the creation? Is it art? Is it all a fraud? Will we ever know? Do we really fucking care???
