Grower Champagne "RM" and Gin Tasting
Champagne Grand Tasting
Grower Champagnes have been described as "Artisanal Wine making" with terroir being at the forefront for each wine, rather than an emphasis on a consistent "House Style" that can be made year after year. They are also one of the hottest trends in the wine world.

So on that note, PJs will be holding a Champagne Grand Tasting (sign-up bellow) giving everyone an opportunity to taste through Grower Champagne wines. You will discover that Champagne isnt just for a celebration toast, it makes for a great Aperitif. Additionally, those fine and persistent bubbles make the wines very refreshing, and they have wonderful balance to pair with a huge range of food, from canapés to charcuterie to crustacean, fried chicken to sushi.

The popularity of Grower Champagne is a relatively recent phenomenon; Champagne houses have dominated the business dynamic in this region of France. These private houses or negociants would buy grapes from the owners of several vineyards to blend and make their House Style Champagne. Grower Champagne makers are limited to only their vineyard holdings. Advocates of Grower Champagnes say that the blending of many terroirs by the larger houses makes those wines "underflavored" and non-distinctive. Grower Champagnes can be identified by the initials that appear before a number on the wine label most common is RM (meaning Récoltant-Manipulant).

Gin Festival of Flavors
And if that wasnt enough to kick start you summer, A Gin Festival of Flavors will really put it into over-drive. The popularity of Gin started when Quinine-containing tonic water was used to help ward off the parasite in the old days, but boy does it taste bitter! One way to make it more palatable: Mix it with gin. According to legend, this is how the gin and tonic was born.

There is enormous diversity in how different gins taste. The Gin definition is entirely a subjective one. In other words: Whats gin to me may not be gin to you. For that, you can thank the fact that each distiller uses a different recipe. While gin must have a strong juniper flavor to it (tends to involve juniper berries usually picked wild by independent workers throughout Europe), distillers are free to add any other botanicals they like to achieve their target taste. Citrus, nuts, and spices all commonly find their way into gin recipes.

Come to PJs to find out about the Gin Game (sign-up bellow) and how a pot distilled varies from column distilled and what is means to be London or Dry gin.

A Walk-around tasting of our Grower Champagne "RM" offerings, on Saturday June 25 from 2-5pm. Gin Tasting will be held at store floor from 4-7pm.
