The Romance of Music! A Harp Concert & Benefit during Preservation Weekend
Celebrate, listen and sing to the exquisite Romance of Music, classical to contemporary through the decades, with concert harpist, Linda Barton Paul in her third annual concert to support Ashevilles preservation mission. An introduction by preservationist and architect Robert Griffin describes the glorious Cathedral in historic Biltmore Village with its Sacred Harmonics. Linda uses French School Performance standards, Salzedo and Grandjany, toured with the New Christy Minstrels, performed as principal symphony harpist at the International Oklahoma Mozart Festival, and in the 1980s performed with Benny Goodman, Judy Collins and Dave Brubeck. Linda was selected as an Oklahoma Centennial artist. 16 compact discs demonstrate her great range and fusion of forms for which she is so well known: classical, popular, celtic, jazz, contemporary, latin and sacred. Her repertoire will make your heart soar in a performance including songs of love, longing and joy through the decades inspired by Rachmaninoff and Debussy, and contemporary favorites Jimmie Davis, Cole Porter, Agustin Lara, George Gershwin, Cat Stevens, Carole King and the Beatles. Audience participation will be encouraged for this most romantic and uplifting afternoon . A wine reception follows in the parish hall where a percent of compact disc sales will benefit All Souls Cathedral.
