Event Details:
In conjunction with the The Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks and Food Underground, Spruce Street Supper Club is proud to announce our first event. Join us on the night of Wednesday July 20th for a night focused on women in technology. We are pleased to be welcoming Natalie M Miller to supper club as our featured guest. Natalie is a self-taught full stack developer. Today her and her business partner have two mature ecommerce businesses, and their most recent venture, Glyphs.co, earned them an interview with YCombinator, the startup accelerator in Mountain View,CA. While they werent chosen for this batch, the story of how they applied and interviews with YCombinator is quite the story.
Come join us on Wednesday July 20th at the historic Physick House for this tech-centric meal. We will be serving up a four course meal expertly constructed by Ari Miller of Food Underground. Throughout the evening, Natalie will share stories aboutf her experiences on her way from coding Geocities website in middle school, to launching her first company, to interviewing with the most well known tech accelerator in the world.
Spruce Street Supper Club isn't just another dinner club. It is an experience. It is a fundraiser. It is an exercise in community engagement. This first event will be supporting Girl Develop It, an organization operating nationally with an especially strong presence in Philly. Girl Develop It is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable programs targeted at adult women (but open to anyone) interested in learning web and software development in a judgment-free environment.
Natalie chose this organization to be the benefiting non-profit for a couple of reasons. First, Natalie has participated in Girl Develop Its Lady Hacks on more than one occasion. She also recognizes that the programs Girl Develop It offers could provide women with an interest in tech a faster path to developing the skills that got her where she is today.
Host Details: The Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks inspires people to engage with history by preserving our unique historic sites and by providing related historical, educational and cultural programming. Our inaugural event will be held in the Physick House in historic Old City. Built in 1786, this square, four-story brick house is the only free-standing Federal-style townhouse remaining in Society Hill. With its huge doorway fan light (the largest in any Pennsylvania residence in 1786), grand proportions and straight, classical lines, Physick House is an exceptional example of the Federal style.
Meal Details: Food Underground creates plated dinners for those special occasions that demand elegance and sophistication. It is also the creator of the #frizwit, a cheesesteak done right that was recently named the number one cheesesteak in Philadelphia by FooBooz.
