Raiders of the Lost Ark

Its 1936, mere years before Europe erupts into World War II. Archeology professor Indiana Jones has just returned from an artifact-hunting expedition in South America to find that U.S. Army Intelligence wants to commandeer his services. The Nazis have begun massing in the African desert, trying to locate an historical, mystical and possibly game-changing biblical treasure known as the Ark of the Covenant. The Army wants Jones to beat the Germans to the site.

This classic 1981 adventure flick is chockfull of unrelenting heroic exploits, setting the bar for multiple movie series to follow. And the greats were involved: Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Lawrence Kasdan and, of course, Harrison Ford. A time-honored classic, Raiders was accepted for preservation in the National Film Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress for being culturally, historically and/or aesthetically significant. It won four Academy Awards.
