VANESSA - Vanessa Trouble has been singing and producing shows with numerous artists for over a decade. Residing in New York City she has honed her vocal and performance skills all over the country, and abroad, fronting various jazz ensembles in New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Atlanta, New Orleans, London, Paris, Ireland, Norway and Asia. In the summer of 2008, Vanessa was the opening and headlining artist in the Four Seasons Hotel at the Diplomat Lounge, as well as performing regularly at the Venetian Hotel & Casino in Macao, China, for a three-month engagement.
Vanessa Trouble and her band recently capped her long and storied career entertaining Jennifer Lopez and friends for the stars 40th birthday celebration in July, 2009. Her New York and Los Angeles zip codes, her voice and her reputation as an engaging and accessible vocal artist have given her an entrée to high profile events, performing for politicos, celebrities and business moguls.
Vanessa really gives it when she sings. We party like its 1929, say JB Miller, referencing Vanessas affinity towards traditional jazz selections and whos company, Empire Entertainment has produced some of the events and parties that have included performances for Bill Gates, Clark Terry, Dana Carvey, Penny Marshall, Quincy Jones, Melissa Etheridge, Tom Selleck, Ron Perelman, and former New York Governor George Pataki.
Expect to hear traditional jazz standards reminiscent of the classic Verve recordings of the Ella Fitzgerald-Louie Armstrong pairings from the 1950s, as well as songs from her two CDs, 1999s The Summer Sessions and 2004s Too Darn Hot.
CHARLIE - Charlie Caranicas is a consummate performer of traditional and main stream jazz and has graced the stages of many of the finest jazz venues in the world. Charlie co-led the house band at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City and he was the trumpet soloist with the renowned Rainbow Room Orchestra.
Charlie has performed with bands as varied as Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, the Independence Hall Jazz Band, the Onyx Club Sextet, the Karrin Allyson Group, the Kelly Friesen Quintet, the Chico O'Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, the Vanguard Orchestra and the Flying Neutrinos. Charlie has been in the pit and on stage for several Broadway shows. Charlie has also received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Charlie has been described as a "wonderfully musical, notably articulate" trumpet player with a "beautiful sound" and "impressive choice of notes" (Clive Griffin,Jazz Improv); "lyrical and emotive" (George Fendel, JazzScene); a "crispy Clifford Brown" (Still Another Jazz Show, 88.7 FM, Sacramento, CA); a "joy to hear" and "capable of making famous standards his own" (Scott Yanow, All About Jazz).
Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Charlie studied music at the University of Minnesota and was part of that City's music scene before moving to New York City in the early 1990s. Charlie has been featured on many CDs, most recently on his own duet project with stride pianist Tom Roberts entitled "Move Over" featuring music from the first half of the 20th Century.
