St. John's Cathedral Presents Storytellers: Marshall McLean Band and Water Monster
Join us for a night of music and storytelling as the Marshall McLean Band with special guest Water Monster bring their unique musical stylings to the Cathedral on the hill: St. John's Cathedral.
This evening will provide a unique opportunity for guest and artist to make a connection with each other, share in the story of this place, this community, and the joy of the music that will surround us.
We invite you to a new concert experience in a new venue, found within one of Spokane's most iconic buildings.
About the artists:
The Marshall McLean Band was born out of the Northwest, and it carries with it the unique sound that is becoming distinct to the Inland Northwest. The band, based out of Spokane, WA, has brought forth a fresh idea; that one can merge elements of thoughtful songwriting in folk, the driving force of rock, and the melodic accessibility of Americana and carve out a new genre - a kind of NW Americana Rock.
One of Spokane's favorite songwriters, McLean manages to write songs without pretension. He sets reflective moods and backs them up with a distinctive picking style that travels seamlessly from powered lead lines to dynamic rhythm. It is in the final output, however, where the Marshall McLean Band carves its most solid niche. The method in which acoustical elements are managed through filters and amps gives forth a clear but overdriven sound that blurs the line between genres. The band is unafraid, blending these styles, taking the best of both worlds and discarding the rest.
The band's first release, "Glossolalia" - which means "speaking in tongues" - showcases the mature and well-received effort by Marshall McLean Band.
The band is currently in the studio working on their second full-length record, Sodak.
Water Monster is the new side project of Cathedral Pearls vocalist/bass player, Max Harnishfeger. Engaging the soul side of his writing chops and his wide vocal range, Max explores the ins and outs of groove centered electronic dreamscapes. Layered over unique, hand crafted beats and one of a kind synth loops, Water Monster adds a human element of acoustic instruments like the kalimba and guitar into each song. Leaving the audience with ever-present knowledge that this group has an equally weighing grasp of technology and musical integrity. With a strong single release of the song Rest in the spring of 2014 and a debut EP titled "Survive The Night" Water Monster is quickly becoming one of the most exciting bands to watch this year in Spokane.
