The greatest mariachi in the world, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, joins the San Diego Symphony for an exciting evening of pageantry and musical virtuosity. The concert will open with San Diegos own world-class Mariachi Champaña Nevin performing their Concerto for Mariachi and Orchestra Pasión Mexicana.

Performing with Mariachi Femenil Garibaldi, this enchanting concert under the stars celebrates the role women have played in mariachi music for decades.

Ruben Fuentes is indisputably the most important person in the history of mariachi music. Celebrating his 90th birthday this year and more than 60 years as Director of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Maestro Fuentes will sit for a discussion of his lifes work and tell stories about writing and recording music with the greatest legends in the history of mariachi, including Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, José Alfredo Jimenez, Linda Ronstadt and many more.
