The House of Bernarda Alba
In Good Company proudly presents Federico Garcia Lorca's The House Of Bernarda Alba.  Returning to her native New Orleans in the title role,  Kathleen McManus joins celebrated local actresses Sherri Marina and Carol Sutton with an ensemble of nine women in exploring  Lorca's tragedy of oppression and jealousy in 1930s Spain.

Federico Garcia Lorca is considered to be Spain's preeminent poet and playwright. The House of Bernarda Alba was completed in 1936, just months before Lorca's brutal death at the hands of Franco's fascist troops during the Spanish Civil War. Lorca's plays are renowned for their heightened language, strong use of symbolism, and, while  deeply rooted in the folk culture and day to day life of Andalucia, Spain, Lorca also wrote with a strong sense of the surreal and the political, much like his contemporaries and collaborators Salvador Dali and Luis Bunuel. Often compared to Tennessee Williams, Lorca is also known for creating characters who thrive on the outskirts of society, and for placing women at the center of his works. The House of Bernarda Alba is a classic in the canon of 20th Century theatre. First performed in 1945, it has been translated into over 20 languages, made into a film, and reimagined as a ballet. It's themes of repression, passion and conformity, as well as the effects of male dominance over women, continue to resonate to modern audiences today.

The House of Bernarda Alba runs in a limited engagement at The Tigermen Den, 3113 Royal St, New Orleans, 70117. Shows are June 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30, July 1 and 2 at 8pm sharp. Due to the nature of our playing space, there is no late seating.

Directed by Rebecca Frank. Puppets, projections and set pieces designed by Daphne Loney. Costumes designed by Jade Brandt. Lighting designed by Diane Baas. Technical Direction under Michael Andrepont. Tricia Anderson is assistant to the director and stage manager.

This production is presented under the auspices of the Actors' Equity Association Member's Project Code.
