Project Flux is excited to announce its upcoming show Project Flux 2016, a full-length dance concert that will feature the re-staging of influential company works premiered the past few years: Successive. Stagnant., a collaboration with Ballet Idaho that premiered in March, and M.A.S.H., debuted in 2014. Both pieces come from the creative mind of Project Flux director and dancer Lydia Sakolsky-Basquill.
Now that we (Project Flux) have built a series of repertoires Im having such a good time re-staging and re-setting on different dancers. Its a fun challenge to tweak the original choreography to fit the current artist without losing the integrity of the piece, Sakolsky-Basquill says of her work. Plus, its been pretty interesting to take that little jog down memory lane.
The concert will also reunite a few familiar Project Flux faces. Lydia speaks to the return of dancers, Gans, Liu, and Hartley, I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with these dancers again. They all play such an important role in what weve built over the past few years. It wouldnt feel right, in our year of becoming nonprofit, not to have them here.
Sakolsky-Basquill will also debut the newest Project Flux structured improvisational work of 2016, playing with soundscapes and the element of surprise. Sakolsky-Basquill comments, the dancers are really trusting me on this one
Since its inception in 2013, Project Flux has established a strong following amongst Boise audiences and the Treasure Valley dance community, presenting works that fuse intricate gestural movement with classical technique and improvised play. It has previously collaborated with many local artists and companies including Ballet Idaho, Boise Dance Co-op, Idaho Dance Theatre, Off Center Dance, Treefort Music Fest, Boise State University's Summer Dancefest, and TedX Boise.
A public reception with Project Flux dancers, family, and friends will be held in the neighboring Philharmonic building following each concert. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided.
