SKCHS Annual Luncheon

Over the past two decades, SKC communities have become some of the most vibrant, diverse, and attractive areas in our country. But while we have grown as a region, the number of low and very low income people living here has grown even faster, reflecting a national demographic shift between metropolitan cores and surrounding cities. Last year at our annual luncheon, we celebrated the collaborations that were occurring amongst agencies as it is crucial in preventing fragmentation. They helped foster a more holistic view of South King County.

This year, we would like to show the many accomplishments our communities have achieved through collaboration, cooperation, and coordination; to showcase many unknown facts and events that occurred in South King County. We believe that people outside of our communities often hear the negative data and matters of need about SKC, but rarely get to hear about or see the great work we continue to do to combat challenges, as well as the many success stories we have. In honor of this theme, we will also be unveiling our new video project titled "Remarkable People and Communities".

We are excited to welcome keynote speaker and mayor of the City of Auburn, Nancy Backus. Mayor Backus has been a strong believer in service to the community and bettering the lives of women and girls. First Elected in 2014, she is the first female to hold the office in Auburns 125 year history and is currently the president of Sound Cities Association that represents 36 cities and provides a voice for nearly one million people.
