The 94th Annual Woodside May Day Town Festival Parade and Carnival will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. The Woodside School Parent Teacher Association is honored to host and sponsor this annual event for the Town of Woodside. The entire community and surrounding neighbors are invited to join in this wonderful Town tradition. This fun-filled day starts with a Fun Run organized by the Woodside Recreations Committee and a Pancake Breakfast put on by the Rotary Club of Woodside-Portola Valley, which is held at the Woodside Village Church.
The Parade
The Parade is led by the elected Grand Marshal(s). Elected this year are the Woodside School Front Office Staff. We are so pleased to honor these women who serve our children and school community with brilliance and cheerfulness everyday: Cathy Stienstra (Administrative Coordinator), Taffy Appelbaum (Student Data Coordinator), Tina Adolph (Office Assistant), and Amanda Bedolla (Account Tech). Following the Grand Marshals is the Kindergarten Royal Court, whichh is chosen fro the 2015-2016 Kindergarten class at Woodside Elementary. The parade will start promptly at 10:00am. Check-in for the parade begins at 9:00am at the Woodside School. Forms for the Parade registration are available online. Online registration for the parade ends on Monday, April 27th.
May Pole Performance and Citizen of the Year Award
Immediately following the parade are two annual traditions which take place in the school's outdoor amphitheater. First is the traditional May Pole dance led by the 3rd Grade under the direction of Dr. D'Ambrosio. Next is the presentation of the Woodside Citizen of the Year award.
The Carnival and BBQ
The Carnival and BBQ are held from 12:00-2:30pm at the Woodside Elementary School. Tickets for the lunch and carnival may be purchased in advance at school. Click here for additional information.
Nominations for the Citizen of the Year Award
The Woodside Parent Teacher Association welcomes nominations for our annual Citizen of the Year award. This Citizen of the Year Award honors a Woodside resident who has made a sustained and significant contribution to Woodside School and specifically to the education and well-being of our children. Nominees will have created a legacy of volunteerism and should be recognized for leading with a spirit of generosity and stewardship toward the education and future of our children and the Woodside School community. Typically their children should have matriculated beyond the Woodside School. Click here for additional information.
May Day Schedule of Events
As in past years, the Sheriff's department will close Woodside Road (Highway 84) at 8:30am. Since maneuvering through crowds and cars can be difficult, early arrival is encouraged.
